Never meant as a name specifically, the words GIVE UP have become a moniker synonymous with the dark, gritty, high contrast images the artist has been imposing on public walls since the turn of the millennium. Taking cues from his own hardcore, metal, and graffiti histories GIVE UP adapted the photocopy-manipulated collage aesthetic of punk fliers into a street art - and eventually fine art - context. Displayed on the streets and in galleries across the country and abroad since. After doing intentionally crude stick ’n pokes in nefarious locations over the years, GIVE UP was urged to take what he learned working in tattoo and piercing shops in the late ‘90s and couple that knowledge with proper inks, needles, and a sterile environment to produce refined - if slow moving - hand-poked tattoos. Eventually finding a permanent home at Flying Squid. By process and preference GIVE UP is available by appointment only, working primarily with images, icons, and themes similar to those that frequent his street/fine art. GIVE UP’s work has been featured in Juxtapoz, Thrasher, the feature length documentary Stick ‘Em Up, as well as in numerous local publications and news stories, album covers, skateboards, t-shirts, tour posters, and beyond.
