Dustin Whelan started his career as an apprentice under the watchful eyes of Jimmy and John at Bad Boyz, in Clear Lake and Galveston. After apprenticing, he was hired on by Matthew Wojciechowski at Hot Stuff Deluxe, later renamed Amazing. There he worked with and was influenced by Matt, Ryan Scroggins, Bill McBee, Catfish Perez, Carson Vester, Steve Comeaux, Rick Pierceall, Gary Kuhn and Jay McCasslin. Dustin was also influenced by the many folks that were open and supportive in his “hang out” stage of learning, like Walter McDonald, Andres Merril, Dan Martin, Madeline, Chano, and Donn Davis to name a few.

Dustin describes his tattooing style as a mix of many things like traditional tattoo imagery, religious art, comic books, and album covers, and hopes it does the “Texas style” justice. He feels Flying Squid is a natural progression and is stoked to be on the team. Dustin will have prints and originals available in the gallery.
